What's the difference between a crown and a bridge?

Older woman smiling | Dentist Sarasota FLWith advancements in technology, dental restorations such as crowns and bridges have become more durable, long-lasting, and natural-looking. When patients have damaged or missing teeth they often have several options they can choose from to ensure the best treatment possible for their specific needs.

What is a dental crown?

A crown is a dental restoration that completely caps or covers an entire tooth. A crown is recommended when a large cavity threatens the ongoing health of a tooth or there is severe wear or cracking. A crown is typically bonded to the tooth with dental cement.

What is a dental bridge?

A bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth by joining an artificial tooth definitely to adjacent teeth. The bridge spans an area where teeth are missing.
