Are dental x-rays safe?

Your safety is one of our priorities, so we never take unnecessary x-rays. However, the radiation to which you’re exposed with a set of four bitewing x-rays is about equivalent to that of a short flight.

Family of dental patients smiling near Sarasota FLEven so, technology has kept up with the demand for lower dose radiation. Now we use safe, efficient, digital x-rays that reduce your exposure even further – some estimates say by as much as 80%.

Digital X-Rays at Our Siesta Key Dentist Office

Instead of film, digital x-rays use flat sensors. The sensors are more comfortable than film and also require less radiation to produce a high-resolution image. Of course, we still use a lead apron to provide our patients with the most protection possible.

Digital x-rays also have other benefits. We can project the images on your chairside monitor to share them with you and pinpoint problem areas. When you can see what the problem is in detail, you will be better able to understand the need for treatment.

The frequency of x-rays at our Sarasota, FL dental office varies greatly from patient to patient. Those with a history of dental conditions will need x-rays more frequently than those who don’t.
